Merchandise Guidelines
Information about the many different ways to correctly use the campus logos and unit names on coffee mugs and glassware, pens and t-shirts. The identity standards are intentionally designed to give designers many different options when creating merchandise. This is not an all-inclusive list, but simply a way to show several possibilities that are available to designers as well as the most common solutions.
Special thanks to Brad Peterson and the communications team at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the College of Engineering, for helping to develop the illustrations and guidelines.
Trademark and Registered Trademark Use
When the standard I Mark is placed on merchandise, it must appear with the trademark symbol ™. When the 1867 version is placed on merchandise, it must appear with the registered trademark symbol ®. The appropriate symbol must appear regardless of whether the merchandise is for sale or given away as promotional items. The two symbols are omitted, however, on small items of merchandise (such as jewelry) when the I Mark is rendered at a size where the symbolsl would be illegible.

Mugs and Glassware
On a coffee mug, the name of the campus unit appears on one side of the mug, and the Illinois logo appears on the reverse side. Additional information, such as a Web address, may appear in conjunction with the name of the campus unit.
Pens
On pens, the Illinois logo appears on one side of the pen, and the unit's name appears on the reverse side, separated by space from the I Mark so the two are not visually a single unit. If printing is only available on one side, the unit's name should appear, separated by space from the I Mark so the two are not visually a single unit.
The second illustration below shows how to incorporate the name of the college and unit.
T-shirts
There are many different options available to designers producing T-shirts. This is not meant to be an all-inclusive list, but simply a way to show several possibilities that are available to designers as well as the most common solutions.
As long as designers refer to unit names with text instead of logos, include the I Mark or Illinois logo with the trademark symbol with the appropriate buffer zone, the designs meet the Identity Standards.
